Rite of penance

ORDER OF SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bless me Father, for I have sinned; this is my first confession OR it has been …… weeks / months / years since my last confession.

The priest invites the penitent to have trust in God, in these or similar words:

May God, who has enlightened every heart, help you to know your sins and trust in his mercy.

The penitent answers: Amen.

The priest invites the penitent to confess their sins

I have sinned in these ways…..

After counsel, and giving a penance the priest then asks the penitent to express their sorrow

ACT OF CONTRITION

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong, and failing to do good, I have sinned against You,

whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more,

and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Amen.

OR

Oh my God, I am sorry that I have sinned against you.

Because you are so good, and with your help,

I will try not to sin again.

Amen.

 OR

Oh My God, because you are so good,

I am very sorry that I have sinned against you,

and by the help of your grace, I will try not sin again.

Amen.

OR

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

The priest pronounces the absolution and dismisses the penitent
